Is it spring yet???

I may have gone into the craft store, and maybe gotten another shadow box for my spoon collection.  Just maybe.
I cannot believe that it is almost April.  I also cannot believe that I have not blogged in all that time.  I have been doing a few fun things, and just working at not getting the blues from this weather.  Its harder than you may think, I honestly think the long cold days were getting so long and dull that I was having a bad time.  It isn't much better yet, but I am trying, hopefully some sun and a new doctor and I can try to get back to being a little more normal.  But it could be worse right?

So what have we been up to?  Well Hubby and Pork Chop and I went out for our annual Valentines day diner.  We went to a nice all you can eat place, and I honestly didn't eat much.  But Porky Chop loves that he can pick out what he wants, he ate like 2 cups of steamed rice, which is weird, but whatever at least he ate.  By the time we left there was such a big line up and announcements from staff letting people know if they didn't have a reservation they would not get a seat.  Crazy!

Hubby is a good sport taking pictures for me, Pork Chop at least sort of looked at the camera, I hate having my picture taken.  Just so you know.

If only the actual dress would make me look that thin.

At my part time job one of my friends finally moved into her house, out of an apartment and she had been wanting to learn to sew.  So I found this pattern on line and she was all " I must make that!!!!" And I was all, "So must I!"  But I wanted to say sew but I don't think she would have gotten the joke.  Whatever, so as soon as she finds a fabric she likes we can start.  I lucked out and the fabric I had been eyeing went on sale for $3 a meter and I got more than enough for about $25.  So I just have to get a zipper and thread and I am all ready.  If I do it and I look as good as the picture then I will show you, if not I will still show you but I won't be happy about it.

I had a day off with Pork Chop during the march break.  I remember growing up and my dad would take every march break off with me and my big sister.  We would go to the zoo, Niagara falls, down town Toronto, the science centre and the cn tower.  It was awesome, but cold.  We would be in snow pants walking around the zoo.  Only bonus, dad couldn't say no to us, so we got to eat lots of ice cream and french fries.  It was great.  I wish I could have to memories for Pork Chop but it's not always possible with our work schedules and the weather has been so crazy, we do what we can.  So I let Pork Chop pick a place to eat and a movie.  So we went to Mandarin and he hardly ate anything, which is fine, lunch costs hardly anything.  Then we went and saw Mr. Peabody, it was cute.

I told Pork Chop to wave for Daddy, then we texted this to Hubby and he was all.  Is he eating olives and rice?  And I was all, "it's better than the sushi he was eating, sushi rolls he dipped in bacon bits.  I don't know where he gets his eating habits from. Honestly, but I do agree that bacon makes everything better.
Do you guys go on pintrest?  I know dumb question, but honestly do you?  Well I don't often, and this is why. I see something and I cannot get it out of my mind.  Like I found these shoes and googled for like 3 hours, and yes that seems crazy, but when you are looking at shoes on line, time flyes!  Anyway I found these shoes and apparently if I had found them last spring I could have gotten them.  But they were sold out everywhere in my size and I was desperate.  I contacted the maker of said shoes and they are in the uk.  They said they were not available any more, but that a special request had been made by another company in the uk to have them made again.  So I watched the company for weeks and when they finally came in stock I bought a pair at like 7 in the morning at work on my little phone.  I was so excited!  I was showing everyone at work my shoes on my phone and they were all like, "so cute!"  And then when I got them people kept asking me when was I going to wear them.  I did once but won't again until the weather is nice, because people these shoes are adorable and I want to wear them all the time.

So they are the cutest things ever, and my life in almost complete having them.  It is sort of sad how happy a pair of shoes can make me.

So lets see, baking has not been happening, my mood just makes it so I go to work then don't want to move when I get home.  This however has not stopped Hubby from baking.  He has made some gluten free treats for his friends at work, which sucks because I used to be the cool baker person, but I don't mind too much as long as he shares with me.  I just want to bake again, or at least I want to feel like I want to bake again.  It could happen.

I hate having my picture taken, and I was all "take my picture!!!" And Hubby was all, you fake smile, you have a weird face, look natural.  Which is stupid, my natural face is weird and fake, so whatever, just take the picture.

So why is there a weird picture of me with that horrendous hair do?  Well I have been growing my hair out for what seems like forever, but in actuality is probably just under 2 years.  I had decided to grow my hair out and donate it for charity to make wigs for kids who have cancer.  Only issue is here in Canada you cannot donate any hair that has been dyed.  Which is crazy because I have been covering the gray for well over 10 years.  Have I mentioned that Pork Chop is almost 10?  Well It could be connected, or not, I will let you decide.

Anyway I found that locks of love in the states will take hair if it has some gray and if you have dyed it, just not bleach.  Well dude that was me!! So I was doing great for a while, but then it got to the point where I just wore my hair in a pony tail, or mostly I just didn't brush it just put it up in a twist or whatever.  And when we were going out to do stuff and I wanted to wear a hat I did two braids.  Have I mentioned that I am pushing 37 or so.  So I hated long hair, but I was all " I said I was going to do this and I will!"  And I would bug Hubby or the girls at work every month or so to try and measure my hair to see if it was long enough.  And on Friday it finally was!

So after work I came home and got changed and told Pork Chop I was going to get my hair cut.  Then he was all "you go out to get your hair cut?"  And I was all "yes, why"  And he said the funniest thing ever, he said "I thought daddy cut your hair"  And I nearly died, because Hubby shaves his own head and Pork Chops.  I was all "your daddy couldn't handle my hair, I need professional help"  And Pork Chop just gave me a weird look and went back to playing his game.

So anyway I went and had a little issue getting my hair done, the ladies at the salon were great.  But one kept trying to point out they won't take coloured hair, and other stuff and I had to keep telling her that where I was donating they would and they they were all "it's going to be short if you want to donate enough"  And I said bring it!

So they tied my hair into two pony tails and cut them off, poor lady stopped a few times, said my hair was too thick that my two pony tails were thicker each than most donations from one person.  I hope that means they can use a lot of it then, because I have never been so happy to have a hair cut in my life!

And here I am, the front is longer, and it is short in the back, like not even touching my neck.  I love it and it is so much easier!
So I got home and had to have a shower I was covered in hair bits, and it was the best feeling to wash my hair so fast.  I then let it dry and ironed it, I have super wavy hair so if I leave it that way it's cute, but I like the sleek look better.  Whatever.

Pork Chop was all " You look different."  And I said good different or bad different?  He said good, but I don't believe him.  I think it's funny how short kids memories are in that way because I have had short hair many times before.  Anyway I am glad I am done, because I cannot stand long hair.  I was so happy I cleared out a whole section in my bathroom of hair ties and stuff, because dude my hair is short!

I just have to mail the hair off now, and I tried to show Hubby and he was all grossed out, he said to leave it in the bag and I did because he is a big baby that way.  I hope that whoever gets my hair feels good about themselves with it and that they know I wish I could do more to help them than just grow my hair.

Anyway nothing too big happening here, just looking forward to the summer, and maybe a little trip to the states to play.

I have a guy here cleaning my dryer vent because apparently you can die if you don't clean it and its a fire hazard.  This is the second time having it done, a few years ago they did it and the amount of lint they got out could have made a whole bunch of clothes.  Anyway we are now going to be lint free, at least until I dry something again.

How have you guys all been by the way?  I love checking out others blogs, but just have not been in the mood to comment.  Probably "talk" to you all in the summer, yikes I need to get back on here more.

Happy New Year!

Pork chop was all like, "what's up mom?!" And I was all, look cute!!! And he did this, I will let you decide if its cute or not.

So its January! And life has been going crazy!! I feel like so much has happened but nothing at the same time.  I have done a little baking, we of course had to do the annual ginger bread house, but I was all, I'm going to do this cheap and make a village and it will be awesome.  It stopped being awesome within minutes when I was trying to build the houses out of graham crackers and Pork Chop was trying to eat all the candy and going on and on about how long it was taking.  I was about to kill him, but figured it was the holidays and I should at least let him live until the new year.  It was a hard choice.

I was so dumb to make this, and Pork Chop ate his weight in candy.  And maybe a bit of icing, I only ate the gum drops.  I swear!
So what else happened?  Our washing machine died, and it was about 3 weeks before we finally gave in and got a new one.  We had a big front loader, but now they say the top loaders are better again, I don't care, I love my new washer and I set it up and hooked it up myself, and it was awesome and I try to find things just so I can use it.  That will wear off soon, cleaning usually does with me.

I pulled a muscle in my lower region. And I went to the walk in clinic.   And I was seeing a fill in Dr because of a huge snow storm.  So this guy was nice, he was a little rushed and not thinking I think.  So I am going to tell you all what happened, because I feel here on the internet we are able to share our best moments.  So he had me sit on the exam table, with that paper thingy over my lower half, and I was sitting up and he for some reason had to run out of the room, and he did, and he left the door open, and he was yelling at the nurse for something.  Did I mention that my butt, which is huge, was hanging out and the door was now open, with a clear view to the waiting room.  And that the people in the waiting room all looked up to see the dr yelling.  And that he then came back in the room with the nurse and they were still talking loudly and my butt was still on display with the door open.  I may have died a little.  So soon as he shut the door I got my stuff on and I sure as heck didn't make eye contact with anyone on the way out.

So long story short, something was pulled, I didn't get better for a few days, and there are now people in my neighborhood that have seen my butt.  Life had better give me a lottery win or something, because that was just crap!

See how he is sitting there beside the bowls of candy?  I got one picture then he was into the candy again.  Sigh every year I do it but I always think I will learn, I never do.
So what else happened?  All three of us got the stomach flu, poor Pork Chop got it first, he was so sick, then Hubby got it, he was so sick I was scared that he would pass out.  Then I got it, on the day before Christmas eve. I was so sick I had to stay home from work and I was crying and Hubby was all, your sick it's okay, and I was all, I know I'm sick, but I want to go to work.  Which is stupid because they would kill me if they got sick. I was finally feeling better by boxing day which was great.

We also had a huge ice storm, we were so lucky not to really be affected, but my poor parents had so much ice they had to have my sister get salt and get them out of the house.  My mother in law was without power for days, but that woman is tough.  I tell you me I would have begged for a hotel, she was all, "its cold at home, I'm going to work to get warm!"  Yeah, crazy!

So we had a good but quiet holiday, which made me feel guilty we had plans to shop the week of christmas for daddies gift and clean and none of it happened.  I feel like as long as Pork Chop was happy that was all that mattered, so I tried to focus on that.  All I wanted was my yearly singing snow man from Hallmark, I have them all and I'm running out of room to display them during the holidays.  But it makes me so happy to see them and think back on each holiday.  I have gotten one every year since the second year we were married.
For our new years we did our annual Dave and Busters night. After work we headed out and had diner then played some games.  It was so fun and I look forward to it every year.
Most years we go skating downtown in our area and last year we stayed out all night to see the fire works, this year it was so cold we went home and played games.  It was nice and not too much work.  I baked some brownies for Hubby, they were a recipe I tired for Christmas diner and he loved them, and he is not a brownie person usually.  And he hardly eats what I make, so I made those and by the new year he had yummy  brownies to snack on.

Pork Chop has been wanting a Domo for like 3 years now, but they were always huge and too many tickets.  This year he scored a small one and he was thrilled!! I told him I was proud that he didn't waste all his tickets and still has a bunch to go back with.

One of the things Pork Chop was asking for was a rainbow loom.  Grandma and Grandpa sure made him happy when it was one of the gifts they got him.  I was not so happy that he had me making things for the whole of Christmas day.  I mean the boy has both arms covered.  He gets very frustrated though because it is a little hard to hook so we do them together, and I bought myself one so we try to do them and he only gets a little frustrated.  Apparently his friends at school are asking him to get me to make them some, I said no, but it could be a good side business right? It wouldn't be wrong to charge grade four kids $5 for a bracelet would it?  Yeah I know it would be but I could be rich you know! I did make a few for his close friends but I am sick of the thing already.
See that is just a few of what he has, Hubby has to yell at him to get moving in the morning because he would wear every single one he had if we didn't stop him.

So that is about it for us, I finally finished my training at work, so things are back to normal and I have plans to take Pork Chop to visit my old work on his PD day.  I cannot believe it has been almost a year and I miss downtown, I do not miss the drive at all though, that part is nice.

So I hope you are all having a great new year so far, other than the butt thing, life is going good.  I think this year is going to be great, and if not, it cannot be worse than last year, how bad can it be after my butt was on display right?

Happy November!

My amazing decorating this year.  I had many people take pictures of my pumpkins.  How awesome is that, no pumpkin guts and I am popular!

Hey all! How is everyone?  Miss me? Probably not, I have been missing for well over a few months now.  I am just getting ready for bed but I wanted to pop  in and say hey. Hubby and I had a rare date night tonight, we went to see Bad Grandpa, and I feel bad to admit I love the stupid humor of it.  I laughed so hard I nearly pee'd my pants.  I will never be one for mature humor.  I like a good fart joke better.  Just saying,I  am a 12 year old boy inside.

My parents watched Pork Chop and it was just nice to go out.  Last night was Halloween and it was so crummy out that we hardly put any decorations up.  So sad it really is my favorite holiday.  Pork Chop had his party the weekend before and we stupidly said he could have his first sleep over.  Other than one kid being sick and having to go home it went well.  I let the boys decorate cupcakes and there was disco dust everywhere.  I will never learn.  Then we had family over the day after.  And it was nice but we had to clean like crazy.  I never feel like a worse homeowner than when we have people over.
Pork Chop is a killer on the ice.  But he is still so cute!

Hubby and I celebrated our 11th anniversary and went out to a special diner.  And then walked all over downtown Toronto, and it was weird but whatever.  It was nice to have time together.

Other than that my training at work should be done before the holidays and I cannot wait, I feel so out of sorts with it all, but such is life.
I saw these at Walmart and I screamed for Hubby he was all like, "uh huh"  whatever I was grossed out!  Pork Chop was all, "They stole your idea!!"  Kid thinks I invented cake pops, poor boy he is so proud of me for no reason.

Pork Chop is back at hockey and loving it, he wanted to be a goalie for years, and this year his is.  Help me people this equipment is costly and I still have a shoe addiction so I don't know if I will survive this.

Anyway hope to see you all soon on the web, or "on the line"  Can you name that movie?  Hubby won't stop saying that.  Sigh.

I am still alive

But I am so sure it doesn't matter.  Seriously where have I been?  Today is just like any other, just that I was able to get home a few minutes early so I thought I would pop in to say hi!

So hi guys!  What is up with you all?  Pork chop is back in school now in grade 4 he is big time now!  I am doing some crazy training for my job down town, and if it goes well I may keep my job.  Seriously I am stressed but its good, I hope.  And hubby is doing great at his new place too.

We spent the summer trying to do some fun stuff, we went to Canada's Wonderland a bunch, and Pork Chop loved that.  Me?  Well I must be old because I nearly threw up a few times. Seriously I used to ride those rides all day.  Well whatever, he loved it.  We also went on a little family trip to this cool mall in the states.  We shopped and I got some candyquik and I loved it.  We went to this mall called Destiny USA, it was amazing!

Other than that I have done cupcakes and cake pops but really that is it, I don't even want to bake it seems, but that could be all the stress with trying to get this new job right.  Oh well.  I still check in on my favorite blogs and I still eat lots of sweets. So life is good, if not busy!

Monday, June 3, 2013

I think I missed a month or so there.

Hey all, I cannot believe it is June already.  Where the heck has this year gone?  I have not done anything really, we have been trying to just get by day to day.  I have been spending my free time just being a bum, I feel like I do nothing at all, and that is probably true.  Pork Chop is almost done school and Hubby got a great transfer at work, he is so excited, and so am I.  He really deserves it!  I am finding working these two jobs keeps me busy and any free time I want to just sit around and not move. Since the weather is nicer we are getting out a bit, and no baking at all really.  I miss it but I just am not motivated, which is a shame because I love it.  I have promised some cake pops at work, so that has to happen, but other than that nothing people.  Feels like I'm in a rut, but I don't have it in me to get out of it.  I think I need some motivation, or just a kick in the pants.  I hop on here every now and then and think about posting but I find that I just don't have it in me.  I feel sad about that, but I think I have to focus on me right now, because I feel like I am slipping into a funk and I don't want to be there. Anyway life could be so much worse, I have it pretty good if you think about it.

Just wanted to pop on to say hi to you all, I know I have visitors here every day and they are all probably thinking I am not here, and I should be.  I hope I get back to me soon, I feel like all these great things are happening and I am just watching them.   Anyway love hearing from you all, and trust me I am still here, just not as much as I wish I was.

I have been so busy!!!

Hey guys I just wanted to pop on and say hi!  I have been having a really hard time managing my time with this new job.  I love it but for some reason the hours and such are making me lose my mind when it comes to my blog.  I have been so desperate to get back to read and share, but then sitting on the sofa or being with my family wins out.  I have done some baking, but not too much, which stinks.

Today is my day off from my full time job but I do have a few hours tonight at my part time work. So I have to whole day to do what I want.  And what I want to do it sit in front of my tv and eat.  What I really plan to do is post this, go get my toes painted and then the rest of the day will be filled with making marshmallows, doing laundry and trying to rest a little bit. I may get ambitious and dust a bit, but lets not think about that, it probably won't happen.

Anyway nothing new to share picture wise, Pork Chop is getting huge, and he can not get outside enough.  Do you remember being small and when it was warm enough you would be out as much as you could?  Well I do, but that is for young people, I would rather cuddle up with a good book or something, but whatever he is doing it.  So I hope to get here soon, because I miss sharing all my things.  I have made some stuff, nothing new, just the oldie but goodie ones.

Hope to be back at this with some new stuff in May. Enjoy the warm weather people.

Simple Shortbread, Total Fail

My newest must have kitchen tool, sort of.

So I have missed you all, I imagine that you are all "where the heck is the crazy lady?"  And I would have to say "who me?  Crazy?"  And then you would roll your eyes, and I would sort of just stand there, it is just how it is you know?

Anyway I have been at my new job for over a week now, and I love it!  But, I feel like an idiot, like I will never get it all.  I also miss all the time I had to bake and blog.  And so tonight I am jumping on to share a really simple cookie.  One that didn't turn out so well for me, but you might have better luck.  Anyway, life is really good, busy but good, and I hope to be back more often to read and blog. So here is a post I wrote way back last year when I was hoping to have a new cookie to share, then I never did, because it was so bad!  Oh well, could be worse.

 So here you go.

I had a dream. It was a simple dream. It involved me getting a new kitchen gadget and me using it and me making something so awesome and amazing that people would want my autograph; they would be like "you are the best thing since sliced bread!" And I would be all "duh was there ever any doubt?" And that would be wonderful!
Never knew you could get this in the regular store, I was all panicked thinking I would have to go to a specialty store.

In real life; I got a new shortbread baking pan. I was all ready to become the famous shortbread baking lady. I even bought rice flour to make it. And well; it was no dream come true if you must know. So basically what happened was I used two cups of butter and ended up with a crumbling pan of half baked and half raw shortbread.

I just lightly oiled the pan.

The flour stuck on in globs so I had to use a pastry brush to get some of it off.

It was not a good day. I almost cried, I was all "how am I ever going to show my face in public again?" And then I tossed out almost all of it and sat on the sofa and pouted for a while. It was one of those things where I look back now and I know how I screwed up but I am not in the mood to try again, yet. So I figure if nothing else I have a post to share my pictures of failure of and it will fill some void in your heart. You know the void, the one where you need to see how badly I can screw up and still come back for more.

See the dough was so soft and I bet you could even pipe it.  Great now I want to try piping it.

You can totally see how over full my pan is, but I was not going to stop.

It's what I do people; I think of you. But if we could have a moment of silence for those two cups of butter that I will never get back that would greatly help with my healing.

Thank you.

So I got this pan at the kitchen store and it had a recipe in it, but it was sort of vague. So I went on line to see if I could find out more about the pan and the recipe. Well for some reason the pan wasn't even on the manufactures site, which should have been a big sign that something was up. But I forged on I looked on google to see if there was anything special I had to do to prepare my pan. In the end I figured that seasoning my pan couldn't hurt and that is what I did. I rubbed some vegetable oil on the pan and then sprinkled some flour on it to make sure nothing stuck.   Then I got to making the cookie dough.

See, I should have taken a bunch out.

It looked way worse in real life.

 Short bread cookies
found on the pan instructions

1/2 pound butter
1/2 cup icing sugar
1/2 cake flour
1/4 cup rice flour
1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt

Pre heat oven to 350, and season your pan.
Blend the butter until creamy, add icing sugar and salt, blend well.  Add rice flour and cake flour and blend well.  Add half of the all purpose flour and blend, add the rest of the flour and blend. Press the dough into the mold and bake until golden brown.

See all this was almost raw, I was so mad!

So the first thing about this is that I have not used rice flour before and I thought that it was a neat idea and figured it would make for a nice smooth cookie. So  I measure out everything and mix it all together and that is when I notice how soft the dough is, the recipe says to press the dough into the pan and it was spreadable. Also the recipe didn't say how much it made so I figured I needed to put it all into the pan. But there was way too much. So instead of taking some out and doing two batched I smoothed it out and went ahead and baked the full pan. And that is where I messed up. I put the pan on a cookie sheet just to make sure that it would not over flow. But even after 30 minutes the middle was still sort of wet but the outside was getting dark. So I pulled the tray out and let it set to cool.

I let it cool a few minutes then flipped the whole thing onto a cookie tray and it fell apart.  The middle was soft and not cooked and the outsides were really crusty.  I even cut it to try it.  Now I will admit it was a nice melt in your mouth soft short bread, or at least the few edges I ate were.  So I cut it up thinking it would set up, but it didn't.  So I took a few pieces to work and no one ate them.  I really cannot blame them.  Just means I need to try again, and I will and it will be amazing.  I won't add this recipe to my index yet until I figure it out, so stay tuned I may be brave enough again before 2014 you know.

This went to work, and it never got eaten.
